A tranquil front porch and champagne balcony off of the master bedroom overlook breathtaking views of Ansley Golf Course. In the distance, you can even see Ansley Golf Club. Avery Drive is one of the communities most private streets. 189 Avery Drive rests on the end of the cul-de-sac, just steps away from the Beltline, and near some of the city’s most popular parks, restaurants, shops and museums. As far as location is concerned, this house is off the charts.

The home’s exterior is absolutely breathtaking. We already mentioned the 8-foot Mahogany double doors, the porch, the foyer and the champagne balcony. If that’s not enough, notice the drive-in two-car garage. To some people, a two-car garage might not be that impressive, but in Ansley Park, it’s a rare find. Built in 1918, the residence has been completely renovated and restored by architectural genius, William T. Baker. Each detail was chosen with deliberation and care, mastering turn of the century craftsmanship. From the street, the tranquil patio is a relaxing reminder that it’s always five o’clock somewhere. Whether that means tea time or wine time is up to you.

Visitors enter through a noteworthy front door surrounded by stained glass-like windows that are found in several places throughout. When you walk in, be sure to look up! The beam ceilings beam ceilings are framed with period appropriate wallpaper supplied by Bradberry & Bradberry. 
The wallpaper in the dining room falls in this category, too. At first it looks like a colorful peacock smiling at you, but  if you look closer, they are flowers. Whatever it is, it gives the room a bold handsome aura and the banquette isn’t too shabby either.

The wallpaper is only the tip of the turn-of-the-century iceberg; every single thing in this home is authentic which makes it even more special. The public rooms emit a very masculine vibe. They are full of warm nooks and built-in cabinets. The only thing missing is a man reading the paper through a pair wire rim glasses while he puffs on a pipe.

The kitchen is a favorite of most everyone who sets foots inside. The tin ceiling is reminiscent of an old train station and it complements the refreshing tone of the room effortlessly. The lipstick red range pops out subtly.

Out back is a breathtaking garden area with a fountain pouring into a koi pond and an adorable carriage house.

The home’s elegant sophistication extends to the second floor. The master suite pretty much defines the word elegance, but like everything else in this unique residence, it is not showy. All of the design choices made, while luxurious, are tastefully executed.

The fireplaces in the master and adjacent bedroom are more like works of art. In the master bath, you’ll find some a little modern sophistication. The owners went above and beyond to keep this home true to its roots, but sometimes, exceptions have to be made; a heated marble floor is just one example. If our forefathers at the turn of the century had heated marble floors as an option, there’s a pretty good chance they would’ve opted yes.

While the view from Piedmont is a pleasant one, most people only enter that way if they’re walking to or from the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, which is located right across the street. It’s not often that we can say one of our listings has the Atlanta Botanical Gardens in the front yard without it being a “slight” exaggeration, but in this case, it’s the complete truth. Not to mention, Piedmont Park is just on the other side of the Gardens, and you can walk there, as well. The back entrance is located just off of Park Lane. You’ll know you’re there when you come to a cozy deck. Even with the best architectural photographers on the case, it’s nearly impossible to capture the warmth of the backyard. The deck is big enough for a table and chairs, grill, and even a garden bench. Not to mention, there are several spots to lighten up the brick red coloring by hanging some flower baskets.

The inside of the home is fully updated from the kitchen to the towel warming rack in the master bathroom, but the current home owner did an impressive job of holding on to the vintage details that make this home reminiscent of “your favorite house growing up.” You know; the house you first lived in when your parents still had their college furniture and your dad was still driving that old beat up Buick he got from his father-in-law. Take everything you will always miss about that house, add on all of the things you want in a home today, and you will have 1380 Piedmont.

If you’re a chef, or even if you’re not, this is the type of kitchen that makes you want to go out, buy the quirkiest apron you’ve ever seen, and find an excuse to whip something up. Maybe you’ll even use that mixer you randomly put on your wedding registry and haven’t even taken out of the box. The warm wood tones, the banquette area, and the old school built-in china cabinet with little windows that peek out bring out the home’s original character. Everything else is new; the appliances, the counter tops, the cabinetry and so on.

Moving into the dining room and living room area, don’t forget to look up. The high ceilings are polished off with shiny wood beam ceilings that make the home feel bigger and the rooms swallow you up. The built in cabinets, vintage windows and original brick fireplace compliment the hardwoods flawlessly.

An additional room sits footsteps away and is separated by two French doors. Whether the new homeowner makes this room into a bedroom, nursery, living room, study or family room is yet to be decided, but the possibilities are endless.

Down a hallway, the walls are begging for family photographs, framed crayon drawings, and maybe some cool art you found at Z-Gallerie or that unique store you popped into on your last vacation. Another bedroom sits to your left. While “No Jumping on the Bed,” will probably be a house rule, the high ceilings in all of the bedrooms ensure that if the rules aren’t always strictly enforced, no one will get a goose egg from hitting their head on the ceiling.

The master bedroom is pretty dreamy. The built in closets and drawers that the current owners added create a ton of storage without cramping the room in the slightest. An exposed brick fireplace (that’s four fireplaces) sits in the center of the room, and floor to ceiling windows over look the back deck and fenced in yard. Bathrooms aren’t usually the talk of the neighborhood, but this one is definitely note worthy. Look at the tiling and the brand new bath.

This safe haven is the a place to call your first home for sure, and while it brings you back to your first home, it’s an amazing spot for your kids to remember one day, as well.

We’re excited to introduce our newest addition, Wendy Leebern. While she’s new to Erin Yabroudy & Associates, she’s hardly a stranger to Atlanta real estate or Beacham & Company. In fact, Wendy has never wanted to be in any other business.

In 2000, she began her real estate career by founding her own company, Southern Realty Homes and Appraisals, where she was a broker and a licensed
appraiser. After falling in love with the city, she finally moved to Atlanta in 2006, continuing her career as a sales associate. Her enthusiasm for Atlanta living is unparalleled!

Her success in the industry goes beyond her vast knowledge of real estate. Wendy’s background in public relations and sales enables her to think creatively about clients’ needs, as well as find new ways to expose listings to as many target buyers as possible.
